Mr. Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury is a career diplomat. He joined Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Cadre in January 1991. He stood 2^nd in the combined merit list in the 9^th BCS examination. He serves as Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs till his PRL on 2 April, 2023. He served as the Bangladesh High Commissioners in South Africa and Mauritius. Prior to that Mr. Chowdhury served as the Bangladesh Consul General in New York, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations, New York and Director General in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka. He also served as Minister in the Bangladesh High Commission in London, and in Bangladesh Missions in Beijing, Brussels as well as in Bangladesh Foreign Ministry in Dhaka at various capacities. Mr. Chowdhury was also the Rector of the Foreign Service Academy from March to October 2021. 

Mr. Chowdhury joined the Bangladesh Public Service Commission as Member on 2 March 2025.

Mr. Chowdhury graduated from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. In 2007, he passed the Course at the National Defence College (NDC), Dhaka securing the 2^nd position. Mr. Chowdhury got training at the International Institute of Public Administration, Paris, France and the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). Prior to joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka, he served as lecturer for two years from 1988 to 1990 in the then BIT, Rajshahi which is now the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET). 

            Mr. Chowdhury is married to Mrs. Abeda Ahmad Chowdhury and they have two sons, Abiyaz Ahmad Chowdhury and Faiyaz Ahmad Chowdhury.
