Professor Dr. Md. Sharif Hossain has over 29 years of experience in research and academia in Bangladesh and abroad. He completed his Bachelor's and Master's (Research Group) degrees from the Department of Statistics, University of Dhaka in 1990 (passing year 1993) and 1991 (passing year 1995) respectively. Being awarded the Monbusho Scholarship by the Ministry of Education of the Japanese Government, he obtained his second Master's degree in Economics majoring in Econometrics from the Department of Economic Engineering, Faculty of Economics of Kyushu University, Japan in 1999. Before that, Dr. Sharif also obtained the Japanese Language Course Certificate from the International Student Centre of Kyushu University, Japan, on 11th April 1996. Later, under the same scholarship, he obtained his PhD in Economics majoring in Econometrics from the Department of Economic Engineering, Faculty of Economics of Kyushu University, Japan on 6th September 2002. Dr. Sharif’s primary role has been teaching and conducting research as an academician in Theoretical Econometrics, Applied Econometrics, Theoretical Economics, Applied Economics, Development Economics, Theoretical Statistics and Mathematical Statistics. Professor Dr. Sharif began his academic career as a lecturer at the Department of Accounting and Information Systems at Dhaka University in 2003, and later on, he was promoted as an Assistant Professor in 2005 and as an Associate Professor in 2007. However, Dr. Sharif was appointed as an Assistant Professor to the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences of the Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economics, and Strategic Research (KIMEP), Republic of Kazakhstan in 2007. At KIMEP, Dr. Sharif taught Basic Econometrics, Applied Econometrics, Microeconomics, Mathematical Economics, Probability Theory and Statistics, Introduction to Statistical Analysis, and Quantitative Methods in Economics at the undergraduate and graduate levels for two years. Again, he joined the Department of Accounting and Information Systems at Dhaka University in 2009. Thereafter, in 2010, Dr Sharif was appointed as an Associate Professor at the Department of Economic Engineering, Faculty of Economics, Kyushu University, Japan. At Kyushu University, Dr. Sharif taught Basic Econometrics, Econometrics II, Advanced Study of Econometrics, Microeconomics, Mathematical Economics and Special Topics in Economics at the undergraduate and graduate levels for two years. After that, again, he joined the Department of Accounting and Information Systems at Dhaka University in 2012. Later on, he was promoted to professor in 2015. Also, he taught at several esteemed private universities, namely: North South University, Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), Stamford University, Northern University, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh, National University and University of Asia Pacific. Professor Sharif had worked as a Visiting Fellow at Kyushu University, Japan in 2002. During his professional period he has been teaching Basic Econometrics, Applied Econometrics, Advanced Study of Econometrics, Microeconomics, Principle of Economics, Macroeconomics, Managerial Economics, Development Economics, Mathematical Economics, Business Statistics for Decision Making, Business Mathematics for Decision Making, Quantitative Analysis for Business, Operation Research, Research Methodology, Financial Mathematics, Management Science, Financial Management, Project Management, Quantitative Analysis for Business at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Sharif received different scholarships and research funds from various sources. During his professional periods, Dr. Sharif has published more than 80 research papers in recognised national and international journals, including Elsevier, Springer, Sage, Scientific Research Publishing, Virtus Interpress, European Centre for Research, Training and Development (ECRTD), Science Publishing Group, The International Organization of Scientific Research (IOSR), and Economics Bulletin, etc.  Dr. Sharif also published several research monographs, namely (i) A Parametric Model of Tourism Demand of Bangladesh, published by the Bureau of Business Research, University of Dhaka in 2023; [ii]: Impacts of Macroeconomic and Socioeconomic Variables on Stock Market Volatility in Bangladesh, published by the Bureau of Business Research, University of Dhaka in 2019; and (iii) Derivation of a Test Statistic for Detecting the Presence of Heteroscedasticity of the Particular Form, and to Compare the Efficiency of the Derived Test with the Other Appropriate Test Statistics. Research Report No. 15, published by The Graduate School of Economics, Kyushu University, Japan, in 1997.  He has also published three books, namely (i) Income Inequality in Bangladesh, published by OSDER Publications in 2007, (ii) Statistics for Business, Management and Economics, published by Mullick & Brothers Publications in 2014 and (iii) Econometric Analysis: An Applied Approach to Business and Economics; published by Cambridge Scholar Publishing Ltd., UK in 2024.  Nationally and internationally, Dr. Sharif’s research papers are cited, of which 14 are h-index and 20 are i10-index. Dr. Sharif has also presented more than 18 papers at different international conferences, including in the USA, the UK, Canada, Japan, Thailand, Russia, and Bangladesh, and four of them were awarded as the best papers. He has given keynote speeches and invited talks at several national and international conferences. His fields of research interest are: Econometric Analysis for Solving and Appropriate Decision-making about Different Kinds of Business, Economic and Socioeconomic Problems; Econometric Business Cycle Research for the Long-term Economic Development of Developed and Developing Countries;  Analysis of the Income Distribution of Developing Countries; Analysis of Risk Management of Stock Market and Banking Sector of Bangladesh; Analysis of Stock Market Development and Economic Growth in Bangladesh; Econometric Analysis for Environmental Degradation and Economic Development of the Developed, Emerging and Frontier Countries. Dr. Sharif has also supervised more than 145 undergraduate and graduate students in writing their internship reports and thesis papers. Dr. Sharif is delighted to inform that his name is listed in the AD scientific index for 2020 to 2025.  Dr. Sharif has also served as a board member of Agrani Bank PLC. In personal life, Professor Dr. Sharif was born to Md. Rafique Uddin Ahammed, who served as a teacher in different government primary schools and Mrs. Sabera Begum, who is a homemaker.
